Miller Prosthetics & Orthotics Hosts Successful First Swing

June 19, 2019 – Parkersburg, WV – Miller Prosthetics and Orthotics recently hosted a most successful First Swing Learn to Golf Training and Clinic in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Instruction was provided by National Amputee Golf Association First Swing Instructor Don Zommer and assisted by John Benway. The morning session saw a group of 17 local therapists, golf teaching pros and O & P professionals who learned more about adapting the game of golf to the physically challenged population. Adaptive equipment, safety instructions and rules of the game were all discussed. The group then moved to the driving range where they practiced hitting golf balls from a seated position, using only one arm, standing on one leg, etc. so that they could appreciate much more our afternoon participants challenges.

Lunch was provided for everyone, morning and afternoon attendees with family and then everyone joined together on the driving range. With over 25 participants for the afternoon, it was a busy time on the driving range, with lots of smiles. Despite a 90% chance of showers, the rain held off until 4 pm! We had coverage from both the local television and print news media.

“Outstanding learning experience both for the therapists involved and for the community

members with new physical demands. Thank you for coming to Parkersburg”

“The materials you provided were excellent- the booklet has so many resources available for

the therapists. We have only positive feedback. It was excellent”. Mark & Nancy Miller
