Eastern Michigan Hosts OPAF First Clinics

April 17, 2018 – Ypsilanti, Michigan – For the 8th consective year, the MSOP students of Eastern Michigan University hosted three OPAF First Clinics on the campus of EMU on Sunday, March 24th. The event, sponsored by University of Michigan O & P Center saw over 60 in attendance to give a try at adaptive scuba, swimming and kayaking. Instruction for each was provided by leaders in their area of expertise in adaptive instruction and included Capital City Scuba, the EMU Down River Paddlers and Rob Hendry and Stephanie Miner, CPO, both OPAF First Swim instructors.

With many first timers this year, participants worked not only on overcoming fears but also participating in life! “A wealth of knowledge between instructors, students and attendees” offered Maureen McDonald, CTRS with the Detroit VA. A film crew from FYI in Ann Arbor was also on hand to record the event.

Event sponsors assisted with volunteers and refreshments and swim goggles and included Ropp Orthopedics, Anew Life and College Park Industries. These types of events wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors and volunteers. Another First Swim will be held in Bay City, Michigan on May 11, followed by First Friday Swims at the Dow Bay City YMCA on June 7, July 5 and August 2.
